Length: 177’ The three-masted INS Tarangini was designed by British shipwright Colin Mudie and commissioned in 1997 as the first sail training ship in the Indian Navy. Her name is derived from the hindi word tarang which means “waves”. The ship’s crest depicts a mother swan teaching her child to fly and swim, a symbol of the ship’s mission of training cadets and officers for the Indian Navy. INS Tarangini circumnavigated the globe in 2003-2004 and has called on 37 ports in 18 countries covering 34, 923 nautical miles. She has a compliment of 12 officers, 31 cadets and 43 crew.
